Iowa City, Iowa (August 15, 2013)  It was not quite the weekend, but close enough for the anxious Bob Mould devotees who arrived early to see Bob and his band at the Englert on a Thursday evening.

Opening for the Bob Mould Band was Love Songs for Lonely Monsters, LSFLM, a Des Moines band,  demonstrated  the existence of a growing vibrant music community in Iowa.

After a short set change, Bob Mould walked to his mic, said hello and then proceeded to tell the crowd to stand up. His energy was that of a twenty something kid caressing a beat up Strat with his amp on full throttle. This is how the night progressed as he progressed through his extensive catalog, hitting songs from Sugar, Hüsker Dü, his solo work as well as material from the new record, “Silver Age.”

Bob Mould is showed the Englert why he is a founder of the hardcore rock genre that has influenced the likes of Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters fame  and Craig Finn of the Hold Steady.

Here is what they looked like
